The organizer of the International Competition for the concept and implementation of a puppet, animated object or the theatrical form ANIMATUS, is “Kubuś” Puppet and Actor Theater in Kielce of Stefan Karski.
Theater began operating in 1955, at the beginning as an association. Its founder was Stefan Karski, he also gave the theater its name. Somewhat perversely, because under the cheerful diminutive of a popular name, he made a reference to difficult Polish history. That was the name of the only armored car in the Warsaw Uprising, as well as reconnaissance planes in the Anders Army.
The beginnings of “Kubuś” were not easy, mainly due to the lack of headquarters. The theater operated as a traveling institution. Over time, despite various difficulties, it became more and more recognizable and liked, its artistic level increased. In 1965 it became a state institution, it received the first location, although still not its own stage. No sooner than in 1992, thanks to the determination and many years of efforts of the director Irena Dragan it managed to acquire the current headquarters at 9 Duża street.
Director of the “Kubuś” Theatre from 2012 to 2020, Robert Drobniuch, initiated a change in the image of the theater, which today offers young spectators not only performances, but also numerous activities and non-stage attractions, including International ANIMATUS Competition. At the moment director of the “Kubuś” Theatre is Piotr Bogusław Jędrzejczak.
